The Sound of the Year awards are back for another edition with over 16 categories competing. The initiative, organized by The Museum of Sound, The New BBC Radiophonic Workshop and Matthew Herbert's Accidental Records, highlights the work of the international community of sound professionals and enthusiasts from around the world. Nominations for The Sound of the Year 2021 awards are open until February 28.

"Sound of the Year", "Best Natural Sound", "Disappearing Sound", "Individual Sound with Best Design", "Most Unpleasant Sound" are some of the categories that make up this edition. This edition also has a category for children under 11 years old. The jury of this edition is composed by Matthew Herbert, Axel Kacoutié, Chris Watson, Andrea Zarza, Bernie Krause, Alannah Chance, among other sound professionals.

Submitted works must have been recorded, heard, created, or released between January 1 - December 31, 2021. Anyone over the age of 16 can submit an application for The Sound of the Year awards. The awards will be presented in the spring of 2022.
