This webinar aims to identify ways to put ethical principles into practice; how to measure fairness and equity; and incentives that could encourage the private sector to observe ethical principles such as inclusiveness.

Challenges of AI ethics and governance: from principles to practice will be moderated by Professor Emma Ruttkamp-Bloem, Head of the Department of Philosophy, University of Pretoria (South Africa), Co-Chair of the Steering Committee of the Southern African Conference for AI Research, and member of the World Commission on Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technologies (COMEST), and will be opened by Gabriela Ramos, Deputy Director-General for Social Sciences and Humanities.

The round table also counts as guests: Carlos Affonso Souza, Professor of Law, Rio de Janeiro State University; Sabelo Mhlambi, Research Fellow, Civil Society Digital Lab, Stanford Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society (PACS); Ellen Broad, Associate Professor, 3A Institute, Department of Cybernetics, Australian National University, and member of the Australian Government's Advisory Council on Data; and Favour Borokini, AI and technology policy researcher at Policy, an award-winning Ugandan feminist collective and civic technology organization.
