BMA lab: Radio Art with Mobile Radio
This masterclass with Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann (also known as Mobile Radio) presents radio art as an open concept that uses the form and content of radio for artistic purposes. By sharing examples of their work in radio art over the last 25 years, which includes installation, performance, mobile and studio production, the creators will provide an overview of this artistic genre and its evolution over time.
The workshop session focuses on the potential of small radio transmitters for creating musical performances and sound installations. Participants will have the chance to witness the advantages of radio technology as a portable sound system, in the creation of a "radio swarm".

Mobile Radio
Mobile Radio is the name of the duo Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann. Together they have produced radio art for more than 50 radio stations around the world, created temporary radio stations and programmed radios in artistic contexts such as the 30th São Paulo Biennial and the documenta 14 exhibition. They co-founded London's seminal art radio station Resonance FM, as well as the international network Radia. They were the artistic directors of the most ambitious radio art festivals organized to date - Radio Revolten, Germany (2016) and Radio Art Zone, Luxembourg (2022), and were also responsible for the resulting publications. At the same time, they are experimental musicians and use radio technologies in live performances.
Mobile Radio was supported by Culture Moves Europe, a project funded by the European Union.
