OPEN CALL: Genius Loci Weimar Festival seeks video mapping projects for new edition
The audiovisual projection festival Genius Loci Weimar, in Germany, is looking for international artists, and video mapping and media architecture projects to join this year’s edition, which will take place between September 5 and 7.

Launched in 2012 as part of the Weimar Summer initiative, GENIUS LOCI WEIMAR has established itself as one of the most acclaimed video mapping and audiovisual projection festivals in the world, bringing thousands of visitors every year to Weimar (Germany), the birthplace of the Bauhaus movement and a city of poets, musicians and thinkers.
To give visibility to new projects in this area, the festival is promoting an open call for national and international artists to develop two conceptual proposals for the new edition of the event, which will take place between September 5 and 7 this year.
Besides the traditional video mapping format, artists can also present projects that involve 3D animation, live-action, short films, drawings, stop-motion, among other formats, demonstrating creativity, narrative power, and historical and architectural awareness of the local context. According to the event's organizers, 'professional expertise in video mapping is not a mandatory requirement for participating in the competition', and a specialized technical team will guarantee all the necessary support for the participants.
The two winning proposals will be presented alternately during the festival and each will receive €10 000 in support. During the festival days, one of the artists may additionally be distinguished with an award of €5 000. The projects must have a maximum duration of five minutes. The projects must not exceed five minutes in length.
The open call ends on June 15th. All the information about the festival and the open call is available on the Genius Loci Weimar Festival website.
