RoadShow 18/19 - UMinho

This third phase of the RoadShow takes us to Maximinos Secondary School for a pedagogical intervention of Product Design students from the University of Minho, focused on groups of blind and low vision students.

23 May 2019

> RoadShow 18/19: (3rd university partner for this school year);
> Partner Entity: School of Architecture of the University of Minho (EAUM), Master of Product Design;
> Target Audience: Blind and low vision students from the Department of Special Education of the Secondary School of Maximinos (ESM).

In 2017, Braga was officially designated as Creative City of UNESCO in the field of Media Arts. An International Network of Creative Cities that aims to strengthen cooperation between cities that consider creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development with social, cultural and economic impact.

RoadShow 18/19, prepared by the Braga Media Arts Educational Service, fills the space between creation, the Media Arts and the community. In this specific process, EAUM's Product and Service Design Master's students focused their 2nd semester assignments on the needs of this blind and low vision community of the ESM special education department. Given the specificities of the MSc, a long cooperation between both educational institutions was developed, with several intermediate actions (described below) that will culminate tomorrow (05/24), with the final presentation of the works to the entire educational community.

> February 22: Raising Awareness on Orientation and Mobility by teacher Isabel Mourão, coordinator of the Department of Special Education of the Secondary School of Maximinos, leading school for blind and low vision students. The action was carried out in the Campus de Couros, extension of the EAUM;

> March 1: Lunch with eyes covered for students of the Master of Product and Service Design of EAUM and respective teachers, provided by the Department of Special Education of the ESM;

> April 30: Participation of the students of the Master of Product and Service Design of EAUM in the Open Day of Maximinos. The goal was to show and test with the school community, with special focus on blind and low vision students, the work being developed under RoadShow;

> May 24: Final presentation and dissemination of the works developed by the Master of Product and Service Design of EAUM for the Secondary School of Maximinos. The presentation and shows will be at 9:00 am in the ESM, with the presence of the participating teams.
